High Detail

SLA 3D Printing

Stereolithography - UV-cured resin technology for exceptional detail, smooth surfaces, and intricate geometries. Perfect for miniatures, jewelry, and detailed prototypes.

What is SLA Printing?

Stereolithography (SLA) uses a UV laser to cure liquid photopolymer resin layer by layer. This produces parts with exceptional surface quality and fine detail resolution, making it ideal for applications where aesthetics and precision matter.

Best For

  • High-detail miniatures and figurines
  • Jewelry patterns and masters
  • Dental and medical models
  • Detailed prototypes and concept models
  • Parts requiring smooth surfaces
  • Small, intricate components

Limitations

  • Smaller build volume than FDM
  • Parts can be more brittle
  • UV exposure may cause yellowing over time
  • Higher material cost
  • Requires post-curing

SLA Design Guidelines

Optimise your designs for successful SLA printing.

Wall Thickness

Minimum: 0.5mm
Recommended: 1mm+

Thin walls may be fragile. For unsupported walls, use 1mm minimum.

Holes

Min Diameter: 0.5mm
Drain Holes: 3.5mm recommended

Hollow parts need drain holes to allow uncured resin to escape.

Fine Details

Min Feature: 0.2mm
Text Height: 0.5mm minimum

SLA excels at fine details. Embossed/engraved text as small as 0.5mm is achievable.

Overhangs

Max Unsupported: 19°
Supports: Usually required

Most designs require supports. We orient parts optimally to minimise support marks.

Clearances

Assemblies: 0.3mm minimum
Moving parts: 0.5mm

Allow adequate clearance for fitted parts. Test critical fits with a prototype.

Hollowing

Wall Thickness: 2-3mm
Drain Holes: Required

Large solid parts should be hollowed to save material and reduce print time.
